Liempo-Chicken-Green Peas-Rice-Eating Fish

It's amazing how easy it is to judge people just by the way they look or the way they talk. And it's amazing how a seemingly pointless activity can bring out the best and worse in people allowing us to know them better, oftentimes, unexpectedly. Last weekend, my team from the office went on an island hopping -- our idea of de-stressing ourselves from all the week's work. Everyone agreed to come however due to some reasons, a few were not able to make it. They were then tagged as Big-T (or traitors). Since it was supposed to be a team building and the entire team were expected to join, the outing almost did not push through. Moreover, the sky was getting dark and we started feeling rain drops as big as a babies fist falling on our heads, I can say that the weather was not very cooperative either. Heads then started to heat up and asses were starting to spew smoke However, after blowing off steam with a couple of bottles, we decided to continue with the trip. And the rest was history.

There were a lot of things that I learned from the island hopping trip. I learned that there will be times when the people you expect the most will not be there for you. And the people you least expect to be there will give you one hell of a great time. I also learned that the least person you thought would care will be the one holding your hand making sure that you don't fall and die. I also learned that you should be very careful when riding a bangka (small wooden boat) as you can actually destroy it if you fall down butt first.

I have also witnessed how a person can be so brave as to save someone else's life and I also learned that whenever there is a camera, we automatically stop whatever we are doing and smile until after the shutter clicks. I am almost certain that this is a unique Filipino trait. I am also made aware that there is a liempo-chicken-green peas-rice-eating fishes that look like Nemo. Finally, I also learned that peeing on a sea urchin prick doesn't really do anything but make you smell like a urinal.

Even though not everyone was able to join, I can still say that the island hopping trip was truly a team building activity. It allowed us to see know each other better on who we are outside the office. And by doing that, I believe that we have strengthen our bond not only as teammates but most importantly as friends.
