For those who haven't heard yet, there is a new Spider-Man movie coming out next year. The new movie will no longer star Toby Maguire since the story of will somehow revolve around Peter Parker/Spider-Man being in High School (think Smallville) and the actor thinks that he is too old to pass for a high school student. True enough. The Amazing Spider-Man will star Andrew Garfield as the friendly neighborhood webslinger and Emma Stone as his high school love interest Gwen Stacy (no Mary Jane Watson/Kirsten Dunst here as well).
This might already be yesterday's paper since the news of Maguire quitting the franchise days before the film production broke out a year ago, however, I still can't understand why they have to reboot something so recently released.
Are they banking on the same success with the Batman reboot? At least that one waited for 8 years (a decade if you won't count the Val Kilmer/George Clooney sequels) and the reboot actually kicked better ass than the previous franchises (excluding Alicia Silverstone's ass, I've always loved that shot with her on the Batgirl costume).
The new Spider-Man movie promises to provide something spectacular that will re-ignite our gusto over our favorite webcrawler. But after seeing the trailer, I fervently hope they had their spider senses on when they were making this movie. Nevertheles, I will still definitely be watching this reboot -- not because of Spider-Man but only because of Emma Stone.
The movie is set to release July 03, 2012.
